A special celebration day to remember the achievements of the rugby players from Newbridge College who in 1970 captured the Senior Cup trophy is planned for May.
It was the last time that the Newbridge school won the coveted cup. The side, pictured above, were under the guidance of Fr John Heffernan and lead by captain Mick Quinn.
In the final, they overcame Blackrock by 19 points to 5.
Now, 42 years later, Newbridge Rugby Club has organised a special afternoon and evening to commemorate their achievement, which will take place on Saturday, May 12..
The day will start with a match at 3pm - Newbridge RFC v Newbridge College Past Pupils XV.
This will be followed by Mass in the College Church at 5pm, and a tour of the school.
The Newbridge College Cup Heroes Dinner will take place at 8.30pm at Killashee House Hotel in Naas, preceeded by a drinks reception.
Tickets for the event are E65, and the dress code is smart/casual.
Hotel rooms are available at a reduced rate for those attending the dinner. For more information or to book a ticket, contact Noel at 087 2602640 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
