A number of people from the Rathangan community were honoured by Kildare County Council recently for their work on sustainable projects in the town.
Kildare’s first citizen, Mayor of Kildare, Cllr. Micheál Nolan, presented the awards to the participants in the Sustainable Communities Project Rathangan 2011 at a ceremony in the Community Centre on Thursday January 26.
A series of health, education and sports projects, funded by the Department of the Environment, through the Sustainable Communities Fund, were run in the town, using a multi-agency approach, through Kildare County Council K-Partners.
K-Partners is a working group, established by Kildare County Council, which delivers local and community development services in partnership with communities in the county.
The projects included: Revisiting Old Habits – The Joy of the Written World, FAI Soccer Skills Training Programme, Kildare Sports Partnership – Increasing participation in sport and physical activity, and K-Fit – Healthy Communities Programme.
“The overall programme brought people together in a positive way using a holistic, healthy and community building approach, working with local communities including children and young people. The projects were supported by the wider community in Rathangan, particularly the residents associations and schools,” said a council spokesperson.
