The Holy Family’s Sr Veronica Brigid Tracy, who was born and bred in Newbridge, celebrated her 100th birthday recently with a letter from the President.
To the delight of a small gathering of colleagues, friends and well-wishers on Tuesday of last week, Sr. Veronica Brigid Tracy displayed her cheque for €2,540 and a congratulatory letter from President Michael D.Higgins last Tuesday in the Holy Family Convent.
“Sr Veronica was born in Newbridge on the Green Road,” said Mayor Damian Molyneaux who attended the celebrations. “She was born Bridget Tracey and took the name Veronica when she was ordained.
She taught in the Curragh for years and was very involved in the History group - she even remembers being on the Curragh the day the British left. She is half the age of Newbridge.”
