CELBRIDGE restaurant, Michaelangelo’s, was voted the top shop front in the annual local Tidy Town Association competition. Temple Manor won the overall tidy estate awards.

The group which maintained St. Patrick’s Church in the town, which also got a special mention in the national Tidy Towns competition, won the Artistic Endeavour award.

Castletown Inn won the Community Floral Display award.

Tidy Towns Association chairman Michael Connolly had a special congratulatory mention for Sean O’Rahilly, who had the contract from the TTA to maintain the town’s public non-estate open spaces. There was also congratulations for Ray Dowling, who looked after flowers.

This work included approach roads to the Workhouse graveyard on the Maynooth road.

Mr. Connolly said the TTA was hopeful of some funding for a planned new life-size statue of Arthur Guinness next year. Mr. Connolly said it had been hard for volunteers to get out this year and grass growth was phenomenal, only slowing down a couple of weeks ago.

Forty two estates were judged this year.

In the Small Estates category, Simmonstown Park won top prize followed by Kiladoon Park and Grattan Court.

Temple Manor won the medium size category, followed by Ballygoran View/Court in second place and Celbridge Abbey in third position.

In the large estate category, Primrose Gate won first place, followed by Hazelhatch in second spot and, joint third, Old town Mill and Abbeyfarm.

In the Commercial Floral Display section, Abbey Lodge and the Mucky Duck were second and third respectively while in the shop front competition, named in memory of Larry O’Toole, Ab Fab Flowers and Walsh’s Pharmacy were second and third respectively.
