A public meeting will take place in Naas next week to discuss the planned merger of the Credit Union with the troubled Newbridge Credit Union.
Donal Higgins of the Naas Credit Union Action Group said there is “considerable unease in Naas and anger in Newbridge” over the proposal.
He pointed out that the members of Naas CU have not been asked their opinion.
“The board say they don’t have to consult the members even though it is going to massively impact on them. The Newbridge members will outweigh those from Naas and then there is the supposed bailout it is claimed will be needed in the event of this going through,” said Mr. Higgins.
He cited an article in this week’s Leinster Leader “which seems to show that Newbridge was a relatively healthy credit union when the accounts were drawn up for their AGM.”
The meeting will take place at the Town House Hotel on Tuesday September 10 at 8pm.
