Eighteen jobs on cards at Glanbia in Ballitore

EIGHTEEN new jobs could be created at Glanbia’s Ballitore plant, the company has confirmed.

The jobs are subject to a planning application to Kildare County Council being successful.

Geraldine Kearney, spokesperson, said its Consumer Products division has invested over €75m in its businesses in recent years.

The division, which has operations in Dublin, Ballitore, Drogheda and Monaghan, confirmed it is currently planning to develop a blow moulding facility In Ballitore

The Glanbia Board of Glanbia has approved significant investment for the Ballitore Consumer Products facility in recent years, it said. “This planned expansion, notwithstanding the challenges of the changing retail/ consumer market environment, is another indication of Glanbia’s commitment to continued growth at Ballitore.”

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Ballitore facility and recently the Chairman of Glanbia, Liam Herlihy, and CEO of Glanbia Consumer Products, Colin Gordon, hosted a recognition night for all those involved at the Clonard Court Hotel, at which presentations were made to the inaugural Committee of the Ballitore branch of Barrowvale Co-operative.

The multinational, which employs over 5,000 in 29 countries including 1,251 in Dairy Ireland, its Irish arm, has applied for a development covering 2,922 square metres.

On 20 August, Glanbia recent half year financial results showed a rise in sales of 8.1% compared with the first half of last year.

It spent €112m in capital projects and commissioned a milling facility in Portlaoise.
