Naas’ Swan Dowlings set for redevelopment
Swan Dowlings, Naas.
SWAN Dowling’s pub in Naas could become the latest licenced premises to close - following a planning decision.
Naas Town Council has granted planning permission for the Newbridge Road pub to be knocked down and replaced by a a number of retail units.
The planning application, made in September last, sought to redevelop the site, which occupies 1.1 acres.
Permission has been given for a mixed use development in the two storey building. It is planned to have an office and a pub/cafe on the ground floor.
A total of 7 shop units are earmarked for the first floor along with ancillary accommodation, staff facilities, storage and toilets. There will be access from the Rathasker link road to a car park which can accommodate 90 car park spaces along with 18 bicycle parking spaces.
Permission has also been given for a pharmacy outlet. The application was made in the name of the Terry Partnership.
In April 2007, when the economy was in a much stronger position, permission was sought for a more comprehensive development, with a strong emphasis on apartments.
At that time, Peter McKenna sought to build 51 apartments at the site along with five retail units, a restaurant and office space.
