PUPILS and staff at St. Corban’s Boys National School recently raised thousands of euro for the Irish Cancer Society.

The money, which the boys raised on Daffodil Day, was handed over to a representative of the Irish Cancer Society.

The contribution was the latest in a series of annual charity initiatives undertaken by the pupils and teachers at the school to help in the battle against cancer and to fund research into the disease, mainly on Daffodil Day.

The school has raised a very impressive €110,000 over the past 15 years and despite the recent economic downturn the enthusiastic children still managed to raise in excess of €8,000 this year alone.

The school organised the sale of flowers and badges and, before that, divided up the items for sale into manageable quantities.

The Irish Cancer Society thanked the school community, past and present, for their hard work and generosity and encouraged them to continue to make a difference to those affected by cancer by supporting Daffodil Day in the future.
