Increasing number of Sallins residents seek V de P help
The number of Sallins people seeking help from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has increased dramatically and continues to grow.
Many residents also contend that community facilities are lacking in the area such as a community centre or a playground – despite the presence of an active GAA club and the community association.
“People are in desperate need and many of those coming to us in Sallins never did so before and some of them have supported us up to now”, said a Sallins V de P representative.
The rapid population growth, aided partly by the presence of the rail station, has created a raft of problems and it’s estimated the V de P is spending E50,000 a year.
Many people now need help with paying utility bills as well as school books.
“Some people have not eaten for more than a day or two and their homes are freezing,” said the representative, who did not wish to be named.
