Fish and chips

FISH and chip lovers will be licking their lips for the third annual ITICA National Fish & Chips Day which will take place on Wednesday, 30th May, when all Irish Traditional Italian Chippers Association (ITICA) members in Kildare will offer their customers half price fish & chips to reflect the 126 year old tradition.

People are urged to ‘look out for the logo’ with 76 per cent visiting their local ITICA chipper on the day to ensure they sampled the unique ITICA experience of hand cut chips and freshly battered fish.

Now in its third year, ITICA National Fish & Chips Day is proving a phenomenal success with over 200,000 people visiting their local ITICA Chipper last year to join in celebrations on the day. Over 60,000 pounds of fish and 400,000 pounds of potatoes are used by ITICA Chippers to keep up with demand on the day.

The Irish Italian chipper culture was started by members of the Irish Italian community who arrived in Ireland in the 1880s from the villages in Val Di Comino in Southern Italy.

The Kildare ITICA Members are: Luigi’s Take Away, Monread S.C., Naas; Co. Kildare; Capri Grill, Poplar Square Naas; Cristian’s, Main Street, Kilcullen; Luigi’s, Dublin Street, Monasterevin; Macari’s, Claire Gate Street, Kildare Town; Macari’s, Greenfield S.C., Maynooth; Sam’s, Main Street, Leixlip; Marsella’s, 4 Clarendon Court, Kill; Macari’s, Main Street, Celbridge; Macari’s, Castle Village, Celbridge; Macari’s, Main Street, Clane; Macari’s, The Square, Kilcock; Cook’s Cabin, 555 Highfield Estate, Newbridge; Di Nardi’s, Leinster Street, Athy; Central Grill Restaurant, Ballymany S.
