Over 1,200 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of €480,000, were seized in a raid on a growhouse in Newbridge last week.
Shortly after midday on Wednesday October 23, the National Garda Drugs Unit, along with local gardai, swooped on five premises including the warehouse at Newbridge Industrial Estate. A total haul of 6,000 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €5m, was confiscated in Operation Nitrogen.
Gardai in Newbridge said lighting, irrigation systems, compost, flower pots and other growhouse equipment were discovered at the warehouse. Nobody was arrested at the building.
“This is a significant find on a national scale and we are continuing our investigations to find out who was behind it,” said a garda spokesperson.
Other premises at Blanchardstown, Swinford, Tramore and Ardee were also targeted. Five men were arrested at other locations and were detained under drug trafficking legislation. Subsequently, one of the suspects was later charged in connection with the raid.
