Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival programme is launched

The launch of the 2013 Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival programme took place in Newbridge Credit Union recently.

The launch of the 2013 Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival programme took place in Newbridge Credit Union recently.

“Our next gathering will be in Newbridge College, July 19 to 26 and promises to be outstanding,” said festival founder and local poet Desmond Egan.

“We begin a day earlier than usual with a Concert on Friday, July 19 by the remarkable Swedish pianist, Hans Palsson.

“The Hopkins Society is honoured to have this performer of genius to open our Festival on Friday 19 July in the Newbridge College Theatre at 7.30pm.”

The official opening ceremony, with visiting dignitaries and friends will take place on Saturday, July 20.

“This year we are proud to have work by Charles Cullen, James McKenna, Eleanor Swan, Anna Linnane, Benedict Byrne and others.”

Meanwhile a special presentation was made on the night to Newbridge Silverware CEO, William Doyle.

The Society President, Conor Bowman presented Mr Doyle with a beautiful pencil drawing by renowned artist Brian Bourke.
