Athy will be on high alert for Viking invaders this weekend.
But there’s no fear from the return of the norsemen of old to the south Kildare town. The Athy Heritage Centre - Museum, as part of the South Kildare Medieval Festival, will explore the world of the Vikings this Sunday, August 18.
There will be a blend of academic lectures and workshops, plus a street fair with Viking traders, and a fun day for young and old is promised.
Events include: a Living History Viking Village featuring physicians, potters, harpists, leather workers, market stalls, fur traders, an armoury, bow maker, cooking site, lucet brading and a Viking seer.
There will also be an artisan fair, where vistors can sample the wares of exotic traders. There will be combat displays, displays on the world of the Vikings, a longboat model and much more.
