NAAS Musical Society is set to perform the popular Gilbert and Sullivan show in the Moat Theatre from March 6-12. The show features well known songs like “Poor Wandering One” and “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General” .
For this production, energetic local talent Peter Fay is cast as Frederic, the love interest of the Major General’s daughter Mabel, played by Orla Colleton.
Local woman Mona Conroy is being directed instead of directing for a change as she takes on the pivotal role of Ruth, Frederic’s maid and de-facto mother, while well known Naas man Denis Kenny stars as the Sergeant of Police. Kildare town’s Liam Quinlivan is the Major General - making this an all Lilywhite front line up.
The production team comprising of father and son. Dave McGauran makes his debut with the group as musical director and dad Arthur makes a return as director and completing the trio is choreographer at this stage, Evelyn Donnelly.
PRO Aishling Conway said: “The cast and crew have been so busy putting the last bits together for what promises to be an amazing show stopper. With a cast in excess of 40 there will be a great sound from this award winning chorus”. Costumes have been sourced from the UK and thanks to Transland Transport Group in Naas for helping with transport.”
This is the first time the group has taken on Gilbert and Sullivan and it has been six years since the society tackled an operetta.
They hope the audiences will love this style of show and the last time a similar show was staged it sold out before opening night. Tickets are available now from the Moat Theatre box office on 045 883030, priced at E20 with concessions of E15 for senior citizens and children Monday and Tuesday.
