Tickets for the opening night of Naas Musical Society’s presentation of “Calamity Jane” have been sold out.
“People who would not normally be regular show-goers are booking tickets and are excited about this particular show,” said PRO Aishling Conway adding “We think it’s because it hasn’t been done in this area for so many years.”
Preparations have been taking place since last month under the tutelage of award winnng AIMS recipient Colin Hughes, who makes his debut as a director.
Others closely involved in the production are musical director Mick Fay and choreographer Deirdre Browne.
Newcomer Dearbhail Downey is playing the title of Calamity Jane. Others taking to the stage are Helen Spring, Peter Fay, Shane Byrne and Julie Donnelly as well as John dooley and Mary Buckley. It starts in the Moat Theatre from Saturday March 8 to March to Friday March 14. Family tickets cost €40 for 2 adults and 2 children on Sunday March 10. The family night has an earlier starting time of 7pm. “Hopefully people will come out to support us early in the week as we often have empty seats on Monday and Tuesday night and end up turning people away towards the end of the run. It can be very frustrating. The shows are expensive so we need bums on seats to pay the bills,” added Aishling.
