Ballintubert House in Athy is playing host this Halloween to the making of a new horror movie, The Exorcism Diaries.

Written by Athy’s Martin Robinson, directed by Newbridge’s Eric Courtney and produced by Richard Kearney, of Frame It Films, the film is a dramatisation of a real-life exorcism in the room of late Cecil Day Lewis, Daniel Day Lewis’ father.

The movie stars many up and coming actors including Game of Thrones’ Brian Fortune, comedian Paddy Courtney, Aislinn ni Uallachain, Elaine Harty and Anna Davis among others.

Director Eric Courtney explains that the film takes the phenomena of exorcism in Ireland seriously with an accurate representation of secret rites of the Catholic Church.

“It’s going to be a great movie when it is complete. The sheer energy of the cast and crew, the excitement and drama is amazing,” said Eric. “It’s basically a terrifying real-life Irish Blair Witch film on exorcisms. The drama is based on outside the room and the reactions of people. And Ballintubbert Gardens play an extra character in the movie because it’s such an amazing setting.” The movie is set for release in January 2013.
