Readers of a certain age will recall the time the legendary, late broadcaster Gerry Ryan provoked a furore when it was claimed he butcherd a lamb on the Gay Byrne show, as he was taking part in a ‘wilderness survival’ show.

Readers of a certain age will recall the time the legendary, late broadcaster Gerry Ryan provoked a furore when it was claimed he butcherd a lamb on the Gay Byrne show, as he was taking part in a ‘wilderness survival’ show.

But did it ever happen, or was it all just about one man’s desire to entertain?

Ryan is played by Michael Ford- FitzGerald in the show by Hugh Travers, which is at the Riverbank Arts Centre this Friday.

The bombastic storytelling will transport the audience to the wilds of Connemara, to the back corridors of RTÉ and into the surreal and ridiculous world of the mind and memory, exploring what show-business is really about and what it costs to be a celebrity.

Tickets are €15.
