A dramatic interpretation of Kildare-born polar adventurer Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance voyage to the Antarctic is about to make its stage debut.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of that famed, if doomed, quest, led by the Kilkea-born explorer.

South Kildare artists including Brian Hughes and John MacKenna have been working on a CD which captures, with music and spoken word, the voyage.

Called ‘Shackleton’s Endurance’, the CD will be launched as part of the 14th International Shackleton Autumn School on October 26, when a live performance, also featuring the Co Kildare Orchestra and the Monasterevin Gospel Choir, will be staged in the Carlow Visual Arts Centre.
