The irrepressible Andrew Maxwell can’t hide his enthusiasm for his forthcoming gig in the Riverbank.
Based in London, he’s busy with television and radio commitments there, but the chance to gig in Ireland is, he says, joyous.
And in particular, this, his second gig in Kildare (he played a venue in Kill a number of years ago) is highly anticipated.
“I have a load of cousins and relatives that I haven’t seen in, like, 20 years, who’ll be there,” he explained.
“It’ll add something to it to be winking at my aunt in the front row!”
Maxwell says that he loves being on stage, but after 20 years of it, he knows that the logistics and the travelling is the tedious bit.
“It’s always a pleasure gigging in Ireland. There’s always some local weirdos, and I’m sure there’s plenty of weirdos in Newbridge as well!”
“Stand up is a listening exercise. You’re always listening for the laughs.”
