The programme for the 54th Kildare Drama Festival has been confirmed and plans are well under way for the renowned festival, which runs from March 1 to 9 in The C.Y.M.S. Hall, Kildare (excluding Sunday 4).
The festival features amateur groups, which compete in two sections - Open and Confined. The winners from both sections will go on to compete in the All Ireland Finals, depending on the total number of points they accumilate throughout the festival tour.
This year’s finals are being held in Athlone (Open) and Shercock, Co Cavan,(Confined). Taking part this year, following a number of years absence are Skibbereen Theatre Society who finished third in the Confined finals in 2011. Thurles Drama Group, and Kilrush Drama Group will also be making their return. Haulboline Theatre Group, Co Cork will perform the well known play “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”. This became a famous film and which starred both Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor winning numerous academy awards. Also taking part are The Silken Thomas Players following their highly successful run in the Abbey Theatre during the Summer.
This years adjudicator will be Tony Rushforth.
