SEVENTY artists will take part a long running art exhibition at Carton House next month, writes Henry Bauress.
The hotel will host host the Vanishing Art which runs from 1 October- 24 December.
It has invited schools to visit a new artist in residence.
Following the 2013 exhibition , the outdoor sculpture exhibition, Vanishing Art, will be held at Carton House for the second time.
It will feature work by artists including John Behan, Carolyn Mulholland, Patrick O’Reilly and Ann Meldon Hugh.
Open free of charge to the public, Carton said it expected over 100,000 people are expected to visit the exhibition.
There are a number of additions to this year’s exhibition, which will have 180 works of art, including the presence of Kilkenny based artist Eoghan McGrath as Carton’s very first ‘Artist in Residence’.
In the run up to the exhibition, the self taught painter will paint various aspects of Carton to be exhibited at the end of 2014 with a full exhibition of his work.
Monica O’Byrne, Director of Sales and Marketing, Carton House said the activity would include a photography competition whereby visitors to the exhibition will be encouraged to snap the sculptures as seen through their eyes and a kids art competition. The most impressive photo will win a sculpture worth €2000 from Ann Meldon.
Carton House said it would welcome schools to visit and learn from Carton’s first ever Artist in Residence – Eoghan McGrath.
Prizes are also on offer to those artists participating in the exhibition including a €5,000 Euro sculpture prize, awarded by a panel of judges, and a €1,500 euro award from the bronze art foundry in Dublin. See visit www.cartonhouse.com / www.vanishingart.ie or call the hotel on 01 5052000
