Prosperous Dramatic Society presents their latest one-act play Bobby Gould in Hell on October 19, 20 and 21.
The group’s love affair with playwright David Mamet continues with this one-act play which sees Bobby Gould being plopped into the waiting room of hell where he is to be interviewed by the devil.
The problem is thayt the interview interrupts the devil’s fishing trip, much to his annoyance.
The subject of the interrogation is Bobby’s past sins, but Bobby argues that he’s not such a bad guy.
When Glenna, a ditzy woman who feels she was mistreated by Bobby, pops in, Bobby and the devil end up bonding over their utter bafflement at women.
It’s the group’s third Mamet play in recent years following The Shawl and November.
The play will be presented on the same night as What shall we do with the body by Rae Shirley and Wake Up Sleeping Beauties by Deirdre Molloy.
All three plays will be produced by Prosperous locals. The Society is particularly delighted that Wake Up Sleeping Beauties will be produced by Prosperous Youth Theatre.
The Prosperous group has been particularly successful on the All-Ireland circuit in recent years, with both one-act and full length plays.
While never quite clinching the top spot, they’ve managed - in sporting terms - to podium with practically all of their offerings in recent years. In the meantime, they’ve regularly swept the boards at local drama festivals around the country.
Performances start at 830pm each night, and tickets are €12 with what the Society are calling, appropriately, “devilishly delicious refreshments served at the interval”.
