It was a case of 'Oh, What A Night' for Naas Musical Society on Friday, May 29, as their fundraising 'Mock Wedding' went off without a hitch in the Town House Hotel.
TD Martin Heydon gamely played the part of groom 'Bertie' while Society stalwart Dearbhail Downey starred as bride 'Precious'.
The Curragh Lourdes Fund and St Anne's Special Needs School benefitted from the event, which was held in a specially erected marquee in the Town House car park.
Tina O’Kelly of NMS wrote the script and directed the “wedding” and plenty of laughter was had. After the ceremony and speeches everyone danced the night away to band McCarty and DJ John Lawlor who all gave their time free of charge.
“But the true heroes in this story has to be Mary Elliffe and her staff in the Town House Hotel,” said Tina. “ Mary had the car park resurfaced to take the marquee and was at our beck and call.”
She added: “Nothing was too much trouble with many of the staff working on the night free gratis to help maximise the fundraising”.
The committee also had huge support from a lot of local butchers and Fruit For U, Coxes Cash and Carry and Supervalu in Sallins who all donated produce towards the meal on the night. Final figures are not in but it is looking like a very profitable fundraiser and the committee are very grateful to everyone for their support.
