A list of productions to be staged at the Moat Theatre, Naas, by the locally-based Moat Club was unveiled last evening (Wednesday February 15).
The launch was also an opportunity for all those interested in the work of the local drama group to catch up with other members, friends and patrons. Aspects of theatre-making including set building, stage management and make-up were demonstrated by members in the auditorium.
The guest of honour was Eugene O’Brien, Edenderry native and author of the club’s first production of the new year, Eden, which will take to the stage this week (running Tues 21 to Sat 25). The gathering was treated to a sneak preview of the Moat’s production, starring Brendan Farrell and Sarah Gallagher and directed by Paul O’Brien and Eilish Rafferty, which was well received.
After Eden, the next production is Easter 1917, and in June, Moat actor Pat Callaghan will direct Hugh Leonard’s gentle comedy A Life. In October, audiences will be treated to Calendar Girls, the play adapted from the hit film starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters as members of a Women’s Institute group in rural Yorkshire who decide to raise money for a Leukaemia research by appearing nude in one of the first ever naked charity calendars. Anne Mekitarian will direct.
