Kildare County Council called on locals to bin their gum in a proper manner at an event in Clane last Tuesday, August 19.

The event was part of the national ‘Bin It Your Way’ campaign run by the Gum Litter Task Force, which promotes the correct disposal of chewing gum.

Surveys have shown that the amount of gum thrown away on the streets is down by a third since the three-year campaign began.

Over nine out of ten people now believe that disposing of gum incorrectly constitutes littering.

Speaking at the event Dara Wyer, Environment Awareness Officer with the Council said: “I am delighted to support this event and encourage the public to ‘Bin It Your Way’.

“Littering is unacceptable, this campaign has been successful in promoting this message and we are proud to be a part of such an important campaign.”
