The 54th annual Kildare Drama Festival kicks off tonight, March 1 at the CYMS in Kildare town.
The opening play is from Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group and is titled “The Memory of Water” by Sheilagh Stephenson. Three recently bereaved sisters come home to bury their mother. Each sister carries with her, her own personal memories of her siblings. Three very different women, come together in the deceased mother’s bedroom to remember and laugh, to dress up and argue, to recall and cry. Then the men appear at the wrong time and the drama unfolds. The play begins at 8pm and tickets are still available at the door. This drama group were All Ireland Confined finalists in 2007/08 and won the Kildare festival three years in a row from 2006 to 2008.
Plays run for the entire week until the final night on Friday March 9.
