Kildare's singing superstar Damien Rice is set to take part in a benefit concert in the Westgrove Hotel on Wednesday, September 30.
Rice, who has headlined venues such as Marley Park, will be joined on the stage by such diverse musical acts as Sean Dunphy, The Everglades Showband, Gene Stuart, the Rooney Family, Claudine Day (Eileen Reid's daughter), Frankie McDonald and Keith Mc
Donald (from the Showband Show), Lisa Thompson, Gene Bannon Showband, Chuck and June Owens and Aidan Cunningham.

Big Tom and the Mainliners have yet to be confirmed.

The benefit night is in aid of a Prosperous man who is battling cancer, and who is known to Mr. Rice and many of the other musicians involved.

The MC for the evening will be Joe Cuddy.

Damien Rice is a Celbridge native, and has attracted worldwide attention and fame following the release of his critically acclaimed and massively popular albums 'O' and '9'.

The 'Cannonball' and 'Volcanoes' singer is a former member of the band Juniper, which has since been renamed Bell X1 and has also attracted critical and commercial success in Ireland and the US.

Rice's songs have featured several times on popular films and television shows, adding to his mainstream success. Damien was given "special thanks" in the end credits of the Academy Award winning 2007 Irish musical film Once.

Tickets are E25 and are available from Prosperous Parish Office on 045 – 841806 or any members of Prosperous Senior Choir.

Doors will open at 7pm and the show will start at 8pm sharp.

Organiser Catherine Daly told the Leinster Leader: "There is a variety of artists going to be performing on the night, so everyone's taste will be catered for."
