The company operating the waste facility outside Naas has apologised for the smell emanating from the area.
Neiphin Trading Ltd., accepts waste at its dump in Kerdiffstown, between Sallins and Johnstown, and smells in the immediate area have prompted complaints from residents as well as Cllr. Darren Scully, who lives nearby.

These issues have been highl
ighted in the Leinster Leader in recent weeks.

In advertisement in this week's Leader, Neiphin Trading expresses concern following numerous complaints about "odours from its waste facility at Kerdiffstown."

The statement goes on to criticise the Environmental Protection Agency and claims that a number of proposals were made to the EPA to install infrastructure, carry out works and maintenance and remedial measures.

These proposals include the provision of a gas collection system and a temporary cap in order to prevent any potential odours but no reply has been received since last July.

According to the company a proposal for a state-of-the-art curing shed which would ensure that treated wastes would not cause odours was submitted over two years ago – but no agreement was forthcoming from the EPA.

"The EPA's failure to agree to these works means that we are prevented from carrying out essential maintenance on the facility. Over 20 reminders have been written and issued but we still have not received their agreement," the statement added.

The company insists it is doing everything it can to solve the problems, adding "please accept the company's apologies if these issues are impacting on you."
