Last October the teachers and the 320 pupils were forced to bus it back and forth to the former St Patrick's school in Naas while their own school was being repaired. The school re-opened for business on Tuesday January 12 much to the delight of ever
yone concerned.
"The school was closed for health and safety purposes," said school Principal Gerry Miller who described the whole process as a "logistical nightmare".
"We had to leave on October 6 and set ourselves up in Naas until our return earlier this month. We packed up there at Christmas for the holidays and expected to be in here first thing but we were delayed another two days by the snow. Logistically it was a nightmare and the students are very happy to be back in as the travel was getting to a bit of a pain especially for the exam students."
Mr Miller thanked the teachers who came in during the freezing weather conditions, to help unpack and sort out equipment, and also expressed the gratitude of the school authorities to Scoil na Naomh Uilig, VTOS, Newbridge College, the Parish Centre and the Patrician School, for their help in providing facilities which enabled St Conleth's to keep running its night classes.
Meanwhile extra tuition has been provided for students taking major exams this year to make up for the disruption.
"State exam deadlines for project work were extended where ever possible by a week or so. We have to thank the local builders who got the place ready in time. We also had to replace the damaged computers so now it is all systems go and we hope to make up for the lost time."
St Conleth's is currently enrolling for a range of night classes and those interested can contact the school on 045 431417 or log onto the VEC website, www.kildarevec.ie.
Enrolment is also underway for incoming First Year pupils in September.
