ELECTION 2009 RESULTS

Naas, Newbridge, Leixlip and Athy Town Councils, and Kildare County Council

All of the counts are now complete for Kildare's town councils and county council. The last of the counts, for Clane Area, finished up on Monday afternoon.
Naas Town Council.

All nine seats on Naas Town Council were filled late on Saturday night with Darren Scully (FG) and Seamie Moore (Ind) being elected on the first count.
The remaining seats were filled as follows: Emer McDaid (F
G) on 6th count; Rioghnagh Bracken (Ind) 8 count; Willie Callaghan (FF) 9th count; Pat Clear (Ind) 9th count; Ann Breen (Lab) 10th count with Ger Dunne (Lab) and Alan O'Kelly (FG) taking the final two seats without reaching the quota.

Sitting candidates who lost their seats included Paddy Behan (FF) Pat McCarthy (Lab) and JJ Power (Greens).

Newbridge Town Council.

Paddy Kennedy (Ind) who topped the poll with an even 1000 votes, along with Pat Black (FF), and Michael 'Spike' Nolan Jr (FG) have been elected to Newbridge Town Council, where counting finished up at 11pm on Saturday night.

Outgoing cllr Mick Deeley, a former Progressive Democrat who staged a last-minute run this time as an Independent, was elected on the fourth count.

Emma Kiernan (FG) and independent Murty Aspell were elected on the eighth count. New candidates Damien Molyneaux and Willie Hamilton (both Labour) were returned without reaching the quota, as was outgoing Fianna Fail councillor Fiona O'Loughlin who suffered from the dramatic collapse of her party's vote in her Newbridge base.

Athy Town Council.

A full recount took place for Athy Town council on Sunday, where there was just two votes separating the two candidates for the final seat. However, it didn't change the original result, and Brian Dooley (FF) narrowly lost out on the seat.

Aoife Breslin (Lab), was elected on the first count, followed by Mark Wall (Lab), on the second count.

Paddy Wright (SF), came in on the third count, Mark Dalton (FF), on the fifth count.

Richard Daly (FF) was home on the 13th count, followed by Mary O'Sullivan (FG) 14th count, James Mahon (Lab) on the 15th count, John Lawlor (Ind), on the 15th count and Redmond, Thomas (Lab), on the 15th count.

Leixlip Town Council

Catherine Murphy (Ind), who topped the poll, followed by Sean Purcell (Lab) were both elected to Leixlip Town Council after the first count.

The rest of candidates elected to Leixlip Town Council were Colm Purcell (Lab), Joe Neville (FG), Bernard Caldwell (FF), Shane Fitzgerald (GP), Anthony Larkin (Ind) Teresa Byrne (FG) and Pat Burke-Walsh (FG).

Kildare County Council - Athy Electoral Area.

Mark Wall (Labour) took the first Kildare County Council seat in the four-seat Athy Electoral Area on his first time on the ticket, reaching well over the quota on first preference votes. Martin Heydon (FG) also took a seat.

Martin Miley Junior (FF) was returned on the fourth count. Richard Daly (FG) got over the line on the fifth count, thanks to the transfers of fellow Fine Gael candidate Billy Hillis who lost out on a seat.

Kildare County Council, Celbridge Electoral Area

Catherine Murphy topped the poll with nearly twice the quota, followed by Kevin Byrne (Lab), both elected on the first count. John McGinley (Lab) was elected on the third count on Saturday.

The count finished up on Sunday afternoon, with Paul Kelly (FF), Senan Griffin (FG) and Colm Purcell (Lab) winning seats at the expense of Fine Gael's Katie Ridge.

Kildare County Council, Naas Electoral Area

Results for this five-seater area were announced on Sunday afternoon.

Anthony Lawlor (FG) topped the poll, and was elected, along with party colleague Darren Scully, on the third count.

Paddy MacNamara (Labour) was elected on the fourthh count, with independent Seamie Moore elected on the sixth count.

Willie Callaghan (FF) got over the line on the seventh count, beating sitting Green Party councillor JJ Power for the last seat.


Kildare County Council, Kildare Electoral Area

Independent candidate Paddy Kennedy topped the poll for the six-seater Kildare electoral area. He was elected on the fourth count on Sunday night.

Fiona O'Loughlin (FF), Spike Nolan Jr (FG), and Tony O'Donnell (FG) were elected on the seventh count. Suzanne Doyle (FF) took the fifth seat.

Outgoing Labour candidate Francis Browne beat his party colleague Adrian Kane for the final seat on Sunday night.

Kildare County Council, Clane Electoral Area

Counting for the Clane electoral area was suspended on Sunday night, and recommenced 10am on Monday morning.

Brendan Weld (FG) topped the poll and was elected on the first count on Sunday night.

Liam Doyle (FF) was elected on the eighth count on Monday. Padraig McEvoy (Ind) and Seamus Langan (FG) were returned on the ninth count. Fianna Fail candidate Daragh Fitzpatrick lost his seat.
