TWO young people who opened a fashion business in Leixlip on July 26 were blessed with sunshine for the official opening, writes Henry Bauress.

Town Council chairperson, Colm Purcell, cut the ribbon at the Doll House Boutique in Buckley’s Lane shortly after two o’clock in the afternoon.

Shane Brown and Christina Jackson, aged 27 and 24 respectively, have opted to sell to the 14-30 age group at what Shane calls very affordable prices.

The venture is the first shop for the couple but they said they have tested the market for their clothes with a spell of selling in the street market. “We have been selling these type of products on the market,” said Shane.

But he did admit: “We are going in at the deep end.”

Why Leixlip and why now, we asked Christina, who lives in Clondalkin.

For Christina it is because she likes Leixlip. “I worked here before as a hairdresser at Destiny,” she said. “I loved working in Leixlip. The people are so friendly.”

Shane and Christina said they were happy with the rent they agreed with French Estates, whose offices are close by.

The Doll House Boutique, which has a Facebook page, will be open six days a week.

It shop front sign, created by Sign Labs in Leixlip, was admired.

The idea for the design came from Shane’s sister Donna, and the shops interior work is mainly down to Eddie Verhoeven.

Cllr. Purcell welcomed the setting up of a new business at a time when the town needs a boost.

“They are quite brave,” he said of the couple. “Leixlip is well served with fashion shops which cater for other age groups.”

Cllr. Purcell said that niche shops such as Doll House is the way to go for Leixlip, adding that he would be opening another shop in September.

The shop will be open 10.00-17.30 Monday to Wednesday, up to 19.00 on Thursday, up to 20.00 on Friday and from 9.30-17.30 on Saturday.
