A real musical treat is in store for Kildare concert-goers following the announcement of details of the 2012 Naas Lions Club Gala Summer Concert. Billed as a program of opera, musical and choral favourites the gala night will be led by the Army No. 1 Band and will feature three of the most popular local performers, including world class soprano Celine Byrne.

The programme will be led by The Baldonnel Singers. Founded in 2003 this very popular male voice choir has already performed at a range of concerts and special events in the general Naas area and throughout the country. On this occasion the choir is renewing its association with the highly accomplished local tenor Paul Linehan. Paul has graced every major national musical venue and has an extensive list of character roles and solo performances to his credit.

Celine Byrne is now an internationally renowned soprano with an impressive list of national and international awards and an ever-lengthening list of opera roles. Following her recent highly acclaimed performance in ‘Rusalka’ at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, this return to her local area is keenly anticipated. Lions Club President, David Osborne, said “This is the third year of our gala concerts with Celine, Paul and the Baldonnel Singers and the audience response has been fantastic. With the addition of the Army No. 1 Band we are confident of another highly successful event”.

The musical director of the Baldonnel Singers is Margaret Hayes-Mahon and piano accompaniment is by Anne Cullen. The MC for the evening will be Leo Nulty.

Lions Club President, David Osborne, adds, “The main beneficiary of this year’s concert will be the Moat Club, a very deserving local cause. Naas Lions Club has a long tradition of supporting local groups and organisations so everything will go back into the community”.

The concert will take place at Killashee House Hotel on Sunday 27 May beginning at 8.00 p.m. sharp. Tickets are on sale at Killashee House Hotel, Lawlor’s Hotel, Moat Club, Top Twenty and Veritas and from members of Naas Lions Club by calling 086-8257373.
