Derby style at the Curragh
Two Kildare ladies made it to the final line-up of this year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Most Stylish Lady competition at the Curragh last Saturday.
Melissa Dooley from Brocan Wood in Monasterevin kept it local, sourcing most of the elements of her stunning olive green, brown and cream outfit in Kildare.
She hired her hat from Jingles in Naas, and bought her dress and necklace at the ByDesign Outlet in Ballytore. Her shoes were from Debenhams and her bag was from a market in Thomas Street.
Kildare town girl Rebecca O’Sullivan stood out in her red and black ensemble. She bought her dress and quirky magazine bag on eBay. The nimble-fingered Kildare girl also made her own hat, and customised her red Penneys heels with dinky little ladybirds and bows.
The overall winner of the competition was Rathfarnham girl Caoilinn Taylor McGlade, in an LK Bennett outfit.
The competition was judged by fashion designer Paul Costelloe, Melanie Morris of Image magazine, James Amos of sponsors Boodles and Breeda McLoughlin, wife of Colm McLoughlin, chairman of sponsors Dubai Duty Free.
Caoilinn won a luxury trip to Dubai and a E5,000 voucher for Boodles in Grafton Street.
Kildare ladies did their bit for local style on the coursewith a fine field of fashion on parade as the rain held off for most of the afternoon.
Singer Ronan Keating entertained the crowds after Camelot’s victory in the Derby finished last Saturday’s racing.
Other famous faces spotted in the crowd included broadcaster Gay Byrne, Minister Lucinda Creighton and the United Arab Emirates ambassador to Ireland Khalid Lootah.
Amongst those enjoying the hospitality in the sponsors’ tent were soccer legend Ronnie Whelan, soprano Celine Byrne, Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas (aka Jason Grimshaw), rugby players Peter Stringer and Gordon D’Arcy, pundit Brent Pope and Michael Malone, Kildare County Council’s county manager.
