Derby Festival to choose its queen this Friday

Kildare's Derby Festival Queen finalists

Kildare's Derby Festival Queen finalists

There was a fantastic line-up of fine fillies at the Irish National Stud and Japanese Gardens last Sunday.

But it wasn’t just the usual display of prize-winning horses and leggy newborn foals who were delighting the visitors to one of Kildare’s most popular tourist attractions.

The finalists in this year’s Kildare town Derby Festival Queen contest were on hand to officially launch the pageant.

The Derby Festival Queen is a long-running tradition in Kildare town.

The lucky girl, chosen by a panel of local celebrity judges, will reign over the week-long festival which is held in Kildare every year to coincide with the running of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh Racecourse.

The gala final night will this year be held in the Derby House Hotel in Kildare town this Friday, June 22.

It promises to be a great night out for the girls’ supporters, with party pieces, singing and dancing, craic and entertainment galore.

The event will be streamed live on www.seeitlive.ie, for those abroad or who can’t attend on the night, and well wishers can send their greetings to the girls via hello@seeitlive.ie.w

All of the girls have been sponsored by local businesses. The lucky winner will win a prize of E1,000 cash, plus a VIP day out at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh, Newbridge Silverware and a direct entry into next year’s Kildare Rose competition. Tickets at E10 are available at the door, or contact the Derby Festival Office on 045 521000.
