the award winning Droichead Nua Players can now add another few strings to their bow. They scooped awards for Best Actor, Best Lighting and third place over all for their production of The Good Father, which was directed by John Bowdren, at the All Ireland awards night held in Cavan on Saturday last.

Allan Clarke from Kildare Town, who played the lead role of Tim in the Players’ production the Christian O’Reilly play scooped Best Actor while Paul Winters got Best Lighting

“I stepped off the stage in Shercock after my performance and left my heart and soul on the boards,” said Allan.

“As the adjudication was being given I was sitting backstage and tears were starting to well up in my eyes. I was humbled by the kind words every one had for me. As I was at every other festival. I’m proud of the award I picked up on Saturday night, as I am of every other award I won. I set the conditions. The conditions were that I had a great part, I created a character, I knew what I was doing, I gave an honest, real and believable performance. Out of those conditions, thankfully what I did was enough.”

Allan will be familiar to many theatre-goers from his recurring role on a popular television drama as well as regular stints locally in the Riverbank and Moate Theatres.

“In the summer of 2009, I had a recurring role on Season four of The Tudors, playing Edward Seymour’s servant,” said Allan. “I worked alongside one of my favourite actors, David O’ Hara.
