It’s not often you’ll get three blooming beauties on the one catwalk.

But South Kildare is famed for producing winning Roses of Tralee, and last year’s title holder Charmaine Kenny plus this year’s reigning Rose, Clare Kambamettu, both Athy girls, came back home to lend a helping hand to a good cause last Thursday night.

They were joined at the annual Lions Club charity fundraising fashion show at the Clanard Court Hotel by this year’s Kildare Rose, Edel Kearney from Calverstown, who compered the event.

And newly elected local TD Martin Heydon was even pressed into service to model some new togs from local boutiques.

Indeed, he and Clare came out for the finale dressed as a bride and groom to whoops and cheers from the packed audience.

Organisers say the show has raised over E10,000 for good causes in South Kildare, topping last year’s figure.

“It was great in this climate. The show was brilliant, it was packed and it was a total sell-out,” said organiser Jo Coyle. “The raffle was also very well supported. We are definitely up on last year’s figure.”

The highlights of the night’s entertainment included the ‘Disco Divas’ dancers, the Sullivan Brothers and the Caffrey School of Dance. Ivor Hegarty emceed the show and was as good as a stand-up comedian, according to Jo.

The show featured Spring fashions from local boutiques, including Baronessa, Essence Boutique, Eurotrendz, Funky Catz, I Do Weddings, Jewelz, Kala Boutique, Manley’s, Mizelle, Sew N Sew, Shaws and the St Vincent De Paul.

Hairstyles for the local models were by Hair Affaire and Make-up was by Eimear’s Beauty in Comfort and Marian’s Salon de Beaute.
