Orchestra to celebrate 21st
THIS will be a big year for the Liffey Valley Orchestra which held its year end concert at the Aula Maxima at the University in Maynooth on Sunday last, 29 April.
The seventy piece orchestra performed from films and TV themes as they anticipate a 21st birthday celebration and concert at the end of this year.
Pieces pefdormed include, Second Waltz by Schostakowitsch and made famous by Andre Riu, Khachaturian’s Adagio from Spartacus which was the Onedin Line theme, Grand March from Aida, I Dreamed A Dream – Les Miserable and Susan Boyle, Somewhere from West side Story, both sung on day by Nicole Connolly from Celbridge who also plays Cello with LVO. The Muppet Show, The Bare Necessities and Burt Bacharach numbers showed the wide and varied approach taken by the Orchestra.
Accompanying the LVO on the day were be the Winter Jazzmen and Girls.
Based in Celbridge and 21 years old now, the LVO started life in 1991 when founder, Claire Condron brought together her own pupils to play in a fledgling orchestra setting.
