Prosperous Music Festival this weekend

Prosperous Music Festival takes place this weekend, August 24 to 26.
And if the music on display at the official launch in Dowling’s last Wednesday night, August 15, is anything to go by, it’s set to be a rip roaring success.
Kildare’s Mayor Micháel ‘Spike’ Nolan was there to officially launch the event and wish the organisers well.
Noting the great history of music in the village, and in particular Dowling’s Pub, he said it was appropriate that the launch should take place there.
Referring to the hope that the event will reignite a vibrant music scene in the village, he said he hoped it would be a rip roaring success.
As well as the Mayor’s contribution, the night saw performances by musical acts such as Saoirse, Pat McGrath and his daughter Meghan, Angela Brien School of Irish Dancing, soloist Caoimhe Mitchell, another father and daughter Ciaran and Eimear McCarthy, Pat’s Lads and a group of festival committee members.
Later that evening, Chairman of the Festival committee, Ger Boland welcomed everyone to the launch.
He explained that the event would include several kinds of music including rock and roll, folk, jazz, pop, traditional Irish and everything in between.
The festival will take place in Larry’s, Christy’s, Dowlings, Rynne’s house, the Church and St. Farnan’s post primary school.
“I was a very happy man when Mick Dunne posted a Facebook message asking if people were interested in forming a music festival in Prosperous,” he said.
“Having been involved in various projects and festivals around Ireland I was delighted to be part of the a local project, but I didn’t realised that I would be the chairman of a festival that that grew faster that Usain Bolt!”
Speaking of the work of the committee, he noted that “pressure can something mount with high expectations from ourselves and others and I am proud of how we have handled these pressures.
“With our current recession comes a responsibility to make this festival feasible and enjoyable. With such a tight budget I believe we have produced a festival of real quality while keeping our heads about water – a great feat in itself.”
And he thanked thanked their many sponsors and supporters of the festival.
“As a voluntary committee we might not have the professional experience required to complete certain projects.
“However, what we lack in experience, we make up for in heart, ambition, togetherness and a great desire to learn and see that this festival will be as good as we can make it.”
He thanked all the committee members by name, as well as all the artists who “will travel from all ends of the country to be part of our festival. We hope that our village will open its arms and welcome these artists and visitors making this festival one that everyone wants to be a a part of on a yearly basis.”
