The Prosperous Music Festival office was officially opened at the weekend.

The three-day event running from Friday to Sunday 24 to 26 next August was officially launched on Saturday, May 26 by the Mayor of Kildare Michael ‘Spike’ Nolan.

As well as promoting music, song and dance by local and national artists the aim of the Festival is to renew the rich musical heritage that once existed in the village around the time of the music sessions in Pat Dowling’s Pub.

Lots of well known and local musicians and singers gathered regularly to play and enjoy music and song, including Donal Lunny, Christy Moore, Members of The Dubliners, The Furey’s and their father Ted, Liam Og O’Flynn and many more.

Festival chairman Ger Boland told the Leinster Leader that 50 acts have now been booked for the event.

The newly opened festival office is part of the Dowling’s Pub building. Mayor Nolan was joined by festival committee members and local children who had taken part in the competition to find a logo for the event.

At the moment the committee is running various fundraisers as well as looking for volunteers for the weekend.

“With over 50 bands, numerous stages, family areas, and special events the festival is need of a large amount of volunteers for all our plans to take place,” Mr Boland explained. “Health and safety is our primary concern as we are aiming for a safe and fun festival”.
