LEIXLIP actor Karl Harpur has landed himself a heck of a nice job over the next few weeks.

Following a tip off from a friend, the Manchester Utd fan applied for a blogging job with Phantom 105.2 FM and beat off opposition to land a dream job of being paid to attend the European Championship this month.

After a meeting with the station on 26 May, Karl, who used his own blog as a sort of cv, was told he would be be Phantom’s official reporter/bloggers on the continent for as long as Ireland stay in the competition.

Karl, along with bus driver, Mick, departed on a 72 seater bus along with 24 others for the journey to Poland via Holland and Germany with a short stop in Berlin, last June 16.

The rest of the fans are flying to Holland where Karl and the lads were due to pick them up before heading on for Ireland’s first game on 10 June

Along with many media figures, he won’t be dining first class or slumming it up in top notch hotels.

Food and accommodation will be provided on the “rough and ready” bus – he calls it a “mobile hostel” - and Karl will use a variety of media, including blogs, pictures and video clip to provide a running commentary on events on and off the field.

He won’t be accompanied by his football loving brother, Bobby, a keen member of the Bohemians fan club. “He’s got two children,” is how Karl put it.

But Karl, currently between acting/directing jobs, is more than happy to keep himself occupied on the trip.

Armed with his Mac Book Pro and other gadgets, he can also be followed on karltrippatonie. “I will be interested in maintaining contacts with as many people as possible. Already I spoke to one lad coming whose sister was involved in one of the shows I was in,” he said.
