Fireworks for Maynooth’s Phantom
Maynooth Post Priamry is making history becoming the first school in the country to stage “The Phantom of the Opera,” writes Aoife Quinn.
In addition, the show’s production team has fireworks literally guaranteed with a licenced pyrotechnics engineer as part of its special effects team.
The group of teachers who are responsible for the musical have been hard at work since autumn preparing for the show. It was at this time that they realised that the rights for the musical had become available for schools.
“Both myself and musical director Anne-Marie Lawlor have always loved this musical it was a dream come true to have the rights secured. “ said Sinead O’Connell.
Maynooth Post Primary is famous for the high quality of musicals it has presented and it is no doubt a highlight of the year not only for the school but for the whole town. This is evident in the fact that most of the tickets have already been sold out with only a few select tickets still available.
The cast is made up of 130 Transition year students who have given up a lot of time and put in huge amounts of effort to ensure that this years musical reaches the high standards that have been set previous years.
The Phantom will be played by Paul Mescal (also of Minor Kildare football fame) and Jessica Hackett will play the part of Christine.
The show’s set has been built by the well known Marie Cusack.
The musical is not only a chance to explore the arts but “enourages the blossoming of new friendships, the growth of confidence and team building” said Sinead O’Connell.
The show opens tomorrow Wednesday the 1 February and will run for five nights.
