Around E600 was collected at a fundraiser gig held in Swifts Nightclub recently.

The event, called ‘Kill the Silence’, was organised to raise money for Jumping Jellybeans, Milltown Foroige and the girls under-14 County GAA team. The gig was held on Saturday 12 January and involved performances by six local bands.

Event organiser Terry Boland said the evening went “really well” and described himself as “very happy” with it. The 15-year-old organised the event as part of his Junior Cert exam in CSPE.

Around 130 people attended the gig, with funds raised through a E5 entry fee. Terry then handed over the money to his chosen charities last week. “They were really happy with the donations,” he said.

Terry has also received positive feedback from people who were at the gig. “Many people have asked if was going to put [the gig] on again.”

Speaking to the Leader before the event, the Patrician Secondary School student said he would consider making it a regular event. And the hard work involved in organising the gig did not change his mind. Of course, he did have some help along the way.

“I’d like to thank Swifts, John and Megan Dooley for doing the sound, all the bands and Terrence who helped out.” He also thanked his cousin James Byrne, who helped to make the poster for the gig.

Kill the Silence is a strictly no alcohol event, with the night club kept seperate from the bar at the events, making it a fun safe environment for all age groups.
