FRIDAY night fever took hold for two young Celbridge singers when they appeared on the Late Late Show.

Rob Scanlon (11) and Harrison Dodo (16), from the Ballymakealy area were invited onto the show by Ryan Tubridy’s team after a song they posted on You Tube attracted millions of hits.

The two, members of local band, Fresh Re, met Robbie Williams at the Donnybrook venue, which they attended with family members.

Their You Tube hit, a version of Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” lasting just over two minutes, was posted on 22 October, and went “viral,” as the extent of large numbers of hits is called.

Harrison said: “I put it on Facebook and it got shared everywhere.”

It was his first time to sing in public but not the last following some very complimentary comments and interest from across the world

Rob, grandson of well known scout leader, Damien Scanlon, and Harrison, did some busking in Grafton Street and made €70 for a ten minute slot which included four to five songs.

The episode resulted in Harrison getting Rob a new set of clothes which ended with some perhaps unwanted attention. “Some girls noticed Rob and we had to make a runner,” said Harrison, whose mum, Magdalena and dad, Tongai, are originally from Zimbabwe.

Rob’s dad, Darren, was inundated with calls with week including offers to go to London for talks. “Nothing could prepare you for what happened,” said Darren.

But the IT worker, and his wife, Anne, are concerned to keep the group’s feet on the ground and consult with all the parents concerned.

“X Factor is a long way off and Rob might not even qualify age wise,” he said.

Apart from his son, Rob, his daughter, Ashlee (16) is a group member along with Daryl, Cian and Harrison, Salesian College students who are doing their Leaving Cert this year.
