Bressie support for Athy family’s charity book

‘FROGS of a Different Nature by Athy’s Gillian Dempsey has a new fan. None other than Blizzard’s frontman Bressie, of the Voice of Ireland show.

Gillian wrote the book when she was eight year’s old to explain her condition, cystic fibrosis. She passed away in January 2009, two years later, and her brother and sister, Aaron and Lauren, published the book last year in her honour.

Last week 15-year-old Lauren, who also has cystic fibrosis, got the opportunity to meet Bressie in Tiger Lily’s in Kildare Town with her best pals Clionagh Dalton and Emily Barry.

“Bressie was a gentleman,” gushed mom Elaine Dempsey. “Lauren was so excited. A teenage disco was put on hold when we got word that she was going to met Bressie. It was great excitement. He signed copies of the book for Aaron. Gillian would have be 14 next week so it was lovely to get the book back out there and raise awareness.”

So far, the book has raised more than €10,000 for cystic fibrosis and Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

“We are getting great support and are raising great awareness in Gillian’s honour and memory. Everyone in Athy has a copy I’d say and from all over the world we are getting fantastic support,” explained Mrs Dempsey.

There are still over 1,000 copies of the book for sale and they can be purchased in Winkles Newsagent or The Gem newsagent both in Athy.
