A young playwright and director presents an alternative view of that most famous episode in history- Easter 1916.
Easter 1917, by Gerard O’Shea, author of the critically acclaimed Skullduggery, runs at the Moat Theatre from 17 to 21 April.
It’s a fictional account of a revolution begun by a handful of people in a tiny Irish village one year exactly after the famous Easter Rising.
The presentation is a world premiere, starting at 8pm nightly. A panel discussion on what the Easter Rising means today will take place on Thursday April 19 at 7pm, prior to that night’s performance. It’s free event and all are invited. The panel features local historians Liam Kenny, Stan Hickey, James Durney and Mario Corrigan.
