All-Ireland play hits Newbridge stage tonight
Droichead Nua players from Newbridge e have now qualified for the All-Ireland Drama Finals in Shercock, Co. Cavan, late April, 2012. With their production of �The Good Father� by Christian O�Reilly, directed by John Bowdren. This is their fourth year to qualify for the All-Ireland, with past productions, �Kings Of The Kilburn Highroad�, �The Lonesome West�.
A rap artist and actor from Kildare Town, Allan Clarke, is currently playing the lead role of Tim in the Droichead Nua players production of ‘The Good Father’ which will be staged at the Riverbank tonight, Thursday, April 19.
The Droichead Nua players qualified for the All-Ireland Drama Finals recently in Shercock, Co Cavan, which will take place in late April, with their production, which is directed by John Bowdren.
After a one night only run in their home town the Droichead Nua Players will take the play to the Moat Theatre in Naas on May 10.
Allan will be familiar to many theatre-goers from his recurring role on a popular television drama.
“In the summer of 2009, I had a recurring role on Season four of The Tudors, playing Edward Seymour’s servant,” said Allan. “I worked alongside one of my favourite actors, David O’ Hara.”
He is also a regular at the Riverbank “I played two roles with Cross Fire Theatre. First as Kip Harris in ‘Wonder of the World’ and the male lead of ‘Frank’ in “Frank & Catherine“.
Allan has picked up nine awards from the seven competitions including Best Actor, Best Moment of Theatre and Adjudicator’s Award. He has also finished filming on his own production called ‘Just Ask Me’.“I wrote the script which was greatly received by all who read it and from there, cast, crew, family and friends were assembled to make that idea a reality.”
“The Good Father” is described as a warm, tender and funny love story about two people in their 30s from different social backgrounds. Jane, a lawyer, and Tim, a painter, meet a New Year’s Eve party and reluctantly attempt a relationship after she becomes pregnant.
Sarcastic, resentful and still trying to please her parents, Jane would prefer to go it alone. But Tim’s open-hearted honesty and persistence gradually wears her down. Estranged from his own father he is desperate to realise a dream he thought beyond him: to be a good father.
As resistance turns to love, they begin to glimpse a bright future together, but Jane carries a secret that threatens to tear them apart.
