Punchestown and a tragic hero of polar exploration

Punchestown can be a cold place. Old hands at the April meeting keep an eye on the weather-vane overlooking the parade ring and surmounted by the distinctive emblem of a Kildare Hunt fox. If the weather vane points to the prevailing south-westerly wind then the top coat can be taken off and Punchestown’s natural amphitheatre becomes a sun trap. But if the weather vane swings to an easterly direction then layers are needed to keep out the icy breeze.

The members of Prosperous Drama Society are hoping history will repeat itself when their play ‘Deadline’ written by one of their members takes to the stage in the All-Ireland Amateur Drama finals.

James has given talks on 'Titanic: The Kildare Connection' in Athy and Naas recently and together with Mario Corrigan of Newbridge Arts and Library Service will be giving the talk to schools in Naas, Caragh, and Celbridge, this week. The ‘Athy April 1912 and Titanic Exhibit’ is currently running at the Athy Heritage Centre where memorabilia, a small scale replica of the ship and newspaper notices of the tragic maiden voyage are on display.

40th concert for Nas na Ri Singers

A special 40th anniversary concert is in the pipeline for Naas’ Nás na Ri Singers.

Droichead Nua players from Newbridge e have now qualified for the All-Ireland Drama Finals in Shercock, Co. Cavan, late April, 2012. With their production of �The Good Father� by Christian O�Reilly, directed by John Bowdren. This is their fourth year to qualify for the All-Ireland, with past productions, �Kings Of The Kilburn Highroad�, �The Lonesome West�.
