IN Our Shoes Theatre Company presents "You Wish!" at six venues throughout it's native County Kildare over the next few weeks.
They ask, "Is it a game show or is it life? Are you looking at it or are you in it?" and other searching questions.
In April 2009 Anne walked into her local bank to open an account. Their response was: "… we are advised not to open accounts for people like you".
Needless to say Anne was furious, which she expressed in one of the most memorable letters ever written.
Anne is the secretary of a group of self advocates called the Peoples First Group, who meets every Tuesday to discuss the interests and the challenges of their lives.
Anne's actions inspired the group to start theatre as the platform of their abilities not their disabilities and a vehicle to address some of their issues.
They called it "In Our Shoes" and they asked local theatre-based learning company, toBE to support and manage their project. And that was only the beginning…
In Our Shoes Theatre Company, made up of an integrated cast and crew of people with and without intellectual disabilities proudly presents its first production: "You Wish!"
This fast-paced, challenging, inter-active and physical theatre piece is touring Kildare for 6 nights only and will be an experience you'll never forget.
Prepared to be enthralled and engrossed for an hour and fifteen minutes by an amazing performance.
Under the direction of Ruth Kennedy, seven actors will be performing this game-show of a lifetime. The profits of the tour are equally shared between the special cast and crew. Dare to step into this unique experience.
Between October 2009 and February 2010 the integrated cast and crew has worked weekly together towards its first Production called "You Wish…" touring 6 venues in its native County Kildare.
The play will have its debut at the Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, at 8 pm on Saturday, January 30, tickets n16 (n14 concession).
On Sunday, January 31, the cast take to the stage at The Moat Theatre, Naas 8pm, tickets n16/ n14.
There will be two shows at the Athy Arts Centre, on Friday February 5, a matinee at 12pm (tickets n10/ n7.50, and an evening performance, at 8pm tickets n16/ n14.
On Saturday, February 6, The Dunamaise Arts Centre hosts the event at 8pm, tickets n16/ n14.
There will be three shows at Moore Abbey Hall, the first two on Friday 12 February, a matinee at 12pm, tickets n10/ n7.50, and an evening show at 8pm, tickets n16/ n14.
Then the final performance on the evening of Saturday, February 13, also at Moore Abbey Hall at 8pm, tickets n16/ n14.
