Last weekend the O'Byrne Cup fixtures fell foul of the sub zero temperatures but it is expected to go ahead this weekend where some new faces are expected to line out for the Lilywhites.
McGeeney and selector Niall Carew welcome three new players
in to the panel with Confey's Hughie Lynch, Ronan Walsh from Cappagh and Clane's David Lyons all included and they are expected to get a run out during the O'Byrne Cup campaign.
The Clane man could play a role at full back, a position he operated at during a spell with the county team in the past. Ronan Walsh has featured under McGeeney before and this time around the Cappagh corner back will be looking to stay involved well in to the business end of the season.
Another new face in the panel is that of Maynooth goalkeeper Paul Flood, who comes in to give cover for Ellistown's Philip Hennessy, who is out of action for some time through injury. However, Flood will not be available to McGeeney until Maynooth's interest in the All Ireland Intermediate Club Championship comes to an end.
Despite the not so favourable weather conditions the panel continued to train last weekend but they are not without injury concerns.
Long term absentee Mikey Conway is a long way from full fitness after a cruciate operation, while Eamonn Callaghan could be the next player to face the knife due to a long running groin problem.
Sunday's opponents UCD will have two Kildare players in their panel with Two Mile House' Peter Kelly and Naas' Peter Higgins both involved with the students. Other stars expected to line out for Dave Billings' team are Wexford's Ciaran Lyng, Francie McGee from Longford and Laois' John O'Loughlin.
Of course Sunday also sees the new experimental playing rules in action for the first time. Kildare's Anthony Rainbow was on the committee that recommended the new rules that include all kick outs being taken from the 13 metre line; all penalties being taken from eleven metres out; the introduction of a free kick if a player makes a clean catch from a kick out between the two 45 metre lines.
Should the Lilywhites prevail on Sunday they will take on the winners of Laois or Dublin Institute of Technology in the second round of the competition. Throw in in St Conleth's Park is at 2pm.
