Solo First Communion for Pipers Hill pupil Alana

NINE year old Alana Holloway went on something of a solo run recently.
She was the only pupil from Naas Community National School, the newest primary school in the area, to make her First Holy Communion.
And she did so alongside pupils from pupils from Scoil an Linbh Iosa, Ballycane, at the nearby church on May 20.
The eldest child of Nuala and Matthew of Rathmore, and older sister of Ryan (7), actually began her education in Rathmore National School.
However not long after that, the family departed for California and Alana was educated there until they returned home.
“The reason she missed her communion was that we came home only last summer after 3 and a half years. She was the only Catholic child in a combined third and fourth class of 22 children at the national school in Piper’s Hill, her mother Nuala told the Leader. “Alana was prepared for the ceremony at home by us and we attended the rehearsals which were organised by the school at Ballycane for all of the children.”
It may seem like a daunting experience but despite being immersed in a group of children she didn’t know before that, Alana quickly made friends with the other pupils and even sang an Irish song as part of the communion mass at the Church of the Irish Martyrs.
Alana is likely to be followed by her younger brother who also attends the VEC run community national school at Piper’s Hill.
